77 Spider Help

Post by REHolder »

77 - 1800 engine has low compression in cylinders 2 and 3, so suspect blown head gasket. Does the fact that the engine billows white smoke until warm confirm a Head gasket failure of just further add to the mystery? I have already posted about the low compression but failed to mention the white smoke on cold starts only.

White smoke at startup is head gasket, very likely. It will eventually, pretty soon, go in a big way, where you may not make it home because the engine stops or you cannot see your way thru the white steam/smoke.

Been there, done it.

Good luck.

White smoke is burning coolant. I bet it also starts rough when it's cold, because the cylinder fills with coolant overnight.

Head gasket for sure.
