I’m just trying to get some information here. The previous owner wanted to install speakers in the front kick panels and there are holes there to fit 5-1/4” - 6-1/2” speakers (haven’t measured). I’m just trying to figure out if the holes are there from the factory or if they were cut in by someone. The main reason I’m asking is I would like to fill them in as there is a lot of air movement from there and I would imagine water ingress while driving as well (wouldn’t know on this as I don’t drive it in the rain). It is nice in the summer as they help keep my legs cool, but cooler weather driving, not so much. If they are there from the factory, I’ll probably just leave it alone and figure something out, but something tells me they were cut in at some point.
Thanks for any info!

Re: Speakers in front kick panels
For the '79-'82 Spider 2000's the sheet metal speaker holes are factory. So is the molded recess in the plastic kickpanel that covers it. The only thing that protects the hole in the sheet metal are the plastic fender liners that cover the back of the wheel well and uncut plastic kick panels that cover the factory holes. Dig around in the same area and you will find the factory speaker wires.
If you decide to mount speakers in those holes, install acoustic baffles as well. It will protect the speaker cones from moisture on the back side and improve the quality of the sound.

You can get marine speaker covers to put on the back side. They will keep the air and water out.
