Help identifying engine

Here is a picture of the round stamp that Tom asked about. Fiat 125BC 000; 4184208. 1C I believe this shows my engine to be a 1608. I am not sure what the other numbers mean. Does anyone know?

Sorry Glen, I have to dispel this. If nothing else, for future reference. Those numbers are in the blank off plug for the distributor. Earlier cars had the dizzy there, later cars it moved up to the head and run off the cam instead of the auxiliary shaft. This plug goes in the hole and is held down by the dizzy hold down clamp. It is removable. There is not a good enough reason to believe it original or use it for engine or block ID. Numbers cast in the block can give you a clue of what it is but since it is a US spider, Csaba is correct that using the small numbers stamped the flat 1x2" area near the oil filter (possibly just around the corner from this clamp) are going to give you the most accurate engine block ID.

FYI, If one is so determined, you can remove that plug and put an early distributor there and move the blank off plug to the cam box.
