Will not stop running when ignition is turned off

Post by vjr124 »

hi all... new to the forum, but I have a unique issue. once the car is running, when I turn off the ignition switch, it keeps running. I have disconnected the 2 white connectors down stream of the ignition switch which I believe isolate the switch, no joy, it keeps running. Suggestions on where to look next.

Its posible for the voltage regulator on the back of the alternator to short and cause this issue.
Try disconnecting the violet/black wire on the back of the alternator and see what happens. The battery warning light will not lite with the wire disconnected but if the car shuts off with the ignition switch "off", the voltage regulator usually needs replacement

My 78 124 Spider did this. Ignition switch replacement solved problem.
