Exactly, as long as you don't mind the instrument and fiber optic lights on all the time, no problem. No one would notice until it gets dark anyways.

Thanks for all the great information. When I looked at the switch and saw that two wires went into one terminal and the other wire went into the other terminal I assumed all three wires complete a circuit that is powered when the headlights are turned on. The dimmer simply controlled the power to the gauges to increase or decrease the brightness. Without the dimmer the gauges are as bright as with the dimmer switch at full power.

How is the voltage at that connection? If less than 12 volts then you have a weak connection otherwise a bad ground if the lights are still terribly dim. There is still the chance that a previous owner put lower wattage bulbs in the dash than the originals.

Personally I do not like the dash lights too bright since that causes your irises to close up to deal with the bright dash and makes it harder to see as far down the road leading to strained and burning eyes.

Got the Dim panel lights also on my 1979 Spider.
Have redone grounds G1 G2 and G3. Yet to replace the fuse panel with a modern version.
Got a new clock from Auto Ricambi and the light on that is even dimmer than the rest. Lol
Checked the output of the dimmer at the clock terminals..,
Off- 0.0vdc
Min- 5.5vdc
Max- 8.2vdc
Hmmm
That would explain it.
