Re: Transmission oil
5w-30? That seems awful thing for our transmissions.
I run this stuff:

Cheap, correct mixture, correct viscosity. Shifts great.

Re: Transmission oil
I don't see anything in the specs that says it meets GL-1 which is what the factory called for. I agree with Stienie 5-30 sounds too thin. I have heard good things about the Redline 75-90 synthetic and i"m sure there are others.

Re: Transmission oil
30W Motor Oil is the same viscosity as 85W Gear Lube. 5W at freezing would make it shift better in cold weather. Remember that ATF initially was just a High Detergent 30W Motor Oil with Red Dye in it and manufacturers for years recommended using the 30W ATF in manual transmissions instead of 90W Gear Lube to prevent synchronizer damage in cooler weather.davidbruce wrote:I don't see anything in the specs that says it meets GL-1 which is what the factory called for. Re: Transmission oil
Thanks for the link and the background DieselSpider. That site 's an excellent reference. I have poured a lot of oil in my days and never would he imagined 30w engine oil and 85w gear oil were even close in viscosity. Just goes to show one should always do their homework.
