Don't know about it being a new thing as that same pump is also branded Mallory, Mr Gasket, Holley, etc and have been around for a long time. I use the Mr Gasket version of that pump as a lift pump on the diesel engine in my Spider and its been pumping for years. The Mr Gasket and others are about twice the cost of the Facet/Purolator and despite the higher price are the more popular pumps around here.

With some research, clearly not "new".
Wondering if any had used this type. And really is it any different.
I think mine is starting to die. I know they are noisy, but mine is quite a "thunk", almost gurgle noise, not clicking.
and can seem slow to initially get fuel to carb. also seems I loose fuel at times: Will just kind of drop off and sputter. then will kind of go again. then other times: fine for 30+mins. ???

They don't pump by osmosis and do have some moving parts so they do wear out over time. If its getting fussy then its time to replace. Personally I do like to give the local guy a chance on items like this when possible. When the Mr Gasket eventually fails in mine I will likely replace it with another just like it.
Some folks have complained of the Mr Gasket failing in a few weeks no longer being able to maintain 12 PSI and only pushing 4 PSI however these micro pumps are only rated for 4 to 7 PSI so they kind of shot themselves in the foot trying to run them at almost double to triple their rated pressure.
With the in-tank pumps one needs to be aware that they are cooled by being immersed in the fuel and since many are rotary pumps with rubber paddle type impellers they are also lubricated by the fuel making so that if you run low on fuel they will not be adequately cooled and if you run out of fuel they will sustain some damage to the impeller and impeller housing.

My e-pump is an old Purolator that I bought (really cheap) from Bayless Inc. about 20 years ago,...it has never failed in all these years. You can hear it before you turn the key to start, but it's quiet enough to not be noisy afterward,...
And the engine usually starts within a single revolution.
I'm sure that most modern pumps don't make as much noise, but this one's been reliable (and it was really cheap).
I've not researched 'facet' type pumps,...I know that rotary vane pumps are very quiet.

Sorry, mine is just for carbureted, not fuel injected. Weber warns against fuel supply pressures above 3 psi. for their carbs.

I use the Holley pump for my dual webbers and its set right at 3 psi. I think the FI pumps were originally Bosch and run at around 30 psi
If you can take your pump apart you might find its full of gunk giving you that fluctuation. A filter between the tank and the pump will help extend the life of your pump
