FI Condenser and Heat Sink Paste Part Numbers?

Post by sclebo05 »

Hello all -

While going through my crusty, original ignition components on my '81 Fuel Injected spider, I came across a few original parts that I want to replace, but can't seem to find must information on. :?:

I'll be replacing the decades-old ignition coil with a Fireball, and while I was inspecting the connectors and surrounding components, I started making a list of smaller parts to refresh.

1) I'm replacing the Ignition control module with a fresh one, and noticed the thermal paste on the current unit has essentially turned to dust. Any recommendations? I've used similar thermal pastes on computer CPUs, wasn't sure if there was an automotive equivalent ...

2) My current Ignition coil has a small condenser on one of the posts, most likely to serve as a sink to prevent radio noise(?). It's dented and possibly 30+ years old. I've checked my favorite spider parts sites, but can't find an exact part number for an '81. The unit on my car has NO MARKINGs. Anyone know the specs on this? Are they generic?

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks as always.

Years ago Delco included silicone grease with each module. It was adequate. I suspect almost any modern electronic heat sink compound would be better.

Heatsink compound - As said above it comes with basically all new modules and what comes with them is perfectly fine.

Condenser on coil - Literally use any generic cheap condenser. As you guessed it is for radio noise.
