Window stuck...

Post by Olympian »

Hi, I have an 83 Pininfarina SpiderEuropa with electric windows. The driver side works fine. The passengers side has been working fine but is now stuck in the lowest position, i.e. within the door, with no glass above the opening to haul it back up. The switch and motor seem to be working as you can hear it straining trying to pull the window up. I have tried the emergency hand crank but that does not seem to be engaging properly. Are there any quick fixes I can use to get the glass back up or do I need to remove the interior door panel?
Thanks!

You need to remove the panel and see why. Sometimes the bar from the interior door handle gets bowed out and hooks the window preventing it from going back up. This happens if you press the door handle down too hard trying to lock the door from the inside. On mine I ended up putting in a guide made out of a strip of sheet metal to keep it from bowing out and causing any more problems.

Putting the window all the way down, pulling up on the interior door handle and holding it that way may allow you to get the window rolled up if its not too bad.

Not the only possibility however that's the one I've seen most recently.

Great, thanks very much for the suggestion. I’ll give it a go, otherwise panel will be coming off...
Cheers

Well I removed the panel and got the window back up, and cleaned and lubricated the window channels whilst I was at it. The motor powers the window to drop fully, but it will only go up half way under power. The emergency handcrank was no more effective as it was just spinning the cog below the motor.

Is it spinning because something is stripped on due to binding somewhere?
