Test of my updated '85 Pininfarina Wiring Diagram

Post by mighty7 »

As part of my post "The great saga of my failed relay (presented in parts)"
http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=23934

I have been updating the wiring diagrams I purchased online. The font is way too small (as you can see here with me using my 80 y/o neighbor lady's magnifying glass).

Image

They are good for tracing a single functional subsystem, but are difficult to use when addressing all the functionality of each component or connector, so I redrew them so that I could build a single wiring diagram for each component and for the entire car. In this way I am hoping to narrow down where all these extra wires in my car are going to and maybe figure out why they are there.

I am 100% done re-drawing the existing wiring diagrams and even added color. I am probably 30% complete in building the single wiring diagram. I will eventually print it on D or E sized paper, but for now I thought I would test presenting it online as a SVG file.

Here is my first attempt.
http://mighty7.remotewebaccess.com/Gall ... u_1985.htm

As you can see I have all the components added. I am now adding the connectors and wires and wire bundles. The left front headlights, side marker light, and turn signal/parking lights are complete as an example. I also added some java script to have a magnifying glass. I still need to finish the diagram and then figure out the best way to display it.

Also I have been creating a list of all the components and connectors that link to pictures of the actual devices. When I am complete with this all-up diagram I will add a grid reference to this diagram and even a hyperlink to the correct location on the diagram where that component/connector is.

Let me know your thoughts.

this will be very helpful, 85 diagrams are very hard to come by. Thanks for posting

ok I tried looking at the svg file on my tablet and the javascript wasn't very touch friendly. I'll have to think of some other way. Anyone have any good ideas?

I ended up purchasing another whole car wire harness and fuel injection harness to continue to improve this wire diagram. In some instances I observed the wire going into a bundle and had to guess where it was coming out of the bundle since I didn't want to take mine apart. I think I did a pretty good job figuring it all out the first time, however with this additional harness I will be able to take it apart and plan on getting everything perfect and figuring out a way to touch a wire in the SVG file and having it highlight so you can trace which bundle segments it goes through.

Also I ended up building a wire jig board and built from scratch my own fuel injection harness for the Bosh Fuel Injection system on the spider. My hope is to build one for the whole car harness as well. One of the big issues as these cars age is the resistance that builds up and degrades all the electronics.

This is also just what I needf. Did you finish it already?
Is it possible to send me a detailed copy so I can print it onto a A0?
I have also some problems with my 1983 spider.
Thanks in advance

Alfred

PS: I also look for the white block connectors going to the middlepart of the dashboard - foglights, windowswitches and such...

Alfred. You can use the online version as it is just an SVG file used by the webpage JavaScript for panning and zooming. You would be on your own to figure out how to print it. Printing on A0 size paper should be good, but it is of a 1984-5 pininfarina and your 1983 will be slightly different. I actually purchased a used full car wiring harness to dissect and improve my diagram. While inspecting my car I could only trace lines into taped bundles, but didn't dare un-tape those bundles to figure out which wire went where. Most of the instances it is obvious, but others I was quite sure.

My thought is I would do that for this new harness all the while re-building the harness with new wire and more modern harness techniques and end up with less resistive loss. I made a new fuel injection wire harness using better wire and it worked out well. But alas the kids came and we moved to a home with less room and time for my car projects has diminished. It is my hope to someday get back to this project. I just pulled the car out of storage for a couple days of zipping around and it ran like a champ. Love that car.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know this is the final version, I will go to a copycenter to print it large.
Do you by any change have the connectors available that go to the middlepart of the dashboard in which the foglightswitches, windowswitch and alarm go?

Also, do you, by any change, know which colors go to which connections on the Hazard Switch and Trunk-openerswitch?

Hi,

This is a fantastic diagram, thank you for putting this together. I dont suppose you have any wiring left? I am looking for the block connectors C35, 36 and C27 and associated wiring to fit main loom.

Or does anyone know a way of printing this out on a large scale?

Do you have any idea how different the volumex car wiring might be ?

I think there are a few differences but more likely just add ons I suppose to the stock cars wiring (like the extra compressor gauge).

I remember also that my car had a rear fog light switch in the dash so that is probably in all European Pinin cars.

Then there is the differences for the 85.5 volumex or standard car which will have door lights as extras and maybe the glovebox light.

Hi Chuck,
Main difference ofcourse is that the fuel injection cable-part is changed with the carburated VX version.
That is the big obvious difference with DS azurro spiders.
And indeed the foglights , doorlights and smog alert in some DS, some did not have them

You still have your volumex?

I now have a different volumex. I sold the red one (JimB on this forum) and recently bought a black one - not driven since 1990 so as soon as I finish my Lancia integrale rally car I will recondition the "new" volumex. Very happy to have one again.
