seat rail bolt issue/question seems simple but...

Post by georgeramos »

Removing the front seats and one of the bolts will not come out. The captured nut inside the rail must be spinning. I was able to get a bladed screwdriver on it and put some pressure on it but the screw will not spin any further and the head is stripping.

Has anyone ever encountered this? I may just cut the bolt but will then have to replace the nut, how easy will that be?

Thanks

I dont see how they can spin, seems to me they slide in from the front or rear of the rail. So they would hit the sides if it started to spin.

I have a similar problem: I can't get one screw to catch the nut in the frame.

I get one good turn and then it tightens up and doesn't give. I've sheared my share of screws in the past, so I'm not pushing here. :?:

Forgot to mention. This is a 124 wagon. I think it might be different than the Spider. I had my Spider seats out recently and it seems slightly different.

If im not holding the inner nut with the screwdriver the whole thing spins. The screw backed out part way but will not back out further.

If it is like the Spiders it is easy to put a new nut piece in. It maybe that a PO replaced the nut with a regular nut giving you the problem. If you can drill the top of the nut off with out hurting the seat I would do that. The proper nut would be a long piece that can not spin in it's holder. Beat of luck.

That happened to me. It seems the nut is stopped from rotating by the sides of the rails. Somehow the front side of one of my rails had expanded and wasn't hold the nut from rotating. I just put some vice grips on the rail to push the sides back in to stop the nut from rotating.
