Exhaust Issues

Post by pjspider »

I posted this same issue in Oct. of 14 "I have a 80 Spider that I've replaced the muffler from Vicks - Model: 27-8327, the first one broke after a couple months where the center pipe joins the muffler" It broke again at the same spot that I had welded! Any suggestions would be helpful, should I install a different muffler maybe ANSA ?

Not sure of the Vicks product, but I have never had any issues with things from AR or Midwest relating to exhaust. That didn't sound right. I have not had any issues at all with either of these folks, only meant that the exhaust products purchased were first rate. I have seen mixed reviews of the ANSA product regarding rust out and thin metal. I personally wouldn't put one on the car for the afore mentioned product issues, and I also think the twin tip just doesn't look right in relation to the body slot for exhaust ( twin tip being too big looking).. Other folks are happy with them so its really a personal choice. I'm currently running a standard muffler from AR with the Chrome tip. Chrome has some pitting and minor rust after two seasons, but I'm on the East Coast near the water and some of that is to be expected.

Just another thought. How are your other mounting points related to the exhaust? Are all of them in place? Are they all in good condition? One is often missing the clamp at the tranny near the donut (Guibo)

The muffler I have is the one you have AR part # EX8-427, mine calls for EX8-428 which has the turn down tail pipe. I just have the two rubber hangers on the muffler, and the spring that holds on the CAT near passenger door. What other part # hanger should be used?
