Magnaflow Catalytic Converter

I have a Magnaflow Cat. # 23503, four bolt flange, exact fit replacement for my 1981 Fiat 2000. I'm sure some other member have installed this unit. Question: Does the heat shield on this unit face the floorboard of the car or the ground? RB
