90EP - Who Has It?

My book calls for 90 wt gear lube in the gearbox and 90EP gear lube in the differential. The only thing I can find is 80-90 API. Anyone have any suggestions?

The important thing is the 90 wt GL-1 oil for the gear box which lacks the brass eating sulfur. Vick Autosport has it. http://www.vickauto.com . I belive you can still find the 90EP at most auto parts stores, but maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks John. I've checked all parts stores in Yuma. They all know what "EP" means but none have a lube designated "EP". Also, none have just 90 wt. They all have 80-90 which should be OK for the gearbox.

Can't the same GL-1 be used in both Dif and GB? I am using Redline.

just a comment here.. GL1 is just general purpose gear lube, you can buy it in 5 gallon buckets from tractor supply stores. much cheaper than buying in quarts from vendors, of course, you will have alot more oil than just 1 transmission worth.

I don't know exactly what the difference is between standard 90 and 90EP. I am told that one of them is corrosive to brass. My book specifies 90 No EP for the gearbox and 90EP for the diff. I just ordered standard 90 No EP from Vicks. It cost $4.95 per quart plus shipping. Friends tell me that I should have just bought whatever was on the shelf! (I think they're right).

Yes, the GL1 can go in the diff. But you cannot put the 90EP in the gearbox, because of the sulfur that eats the synchros.

I finally received the gear oil from VICK. It'l labeled GL-1 90W "Ultra High Performance" Gear Lubricant (Quotes are mine). The label on the back states that it is "Non-EP". Oh well, at $4.95 per quart I suppose it should be "Ultra High Performance".
