thing above the gas pedal leaking on my carpet on 82 FI

I cant seem to identify this small boxish device above the accelorator pedal. It has a wire mouse on it. It is leaking somesort of oil on to my carpet. Please help.

That is likely the reset box for the catalytic converter warning light, and has no fluid in it. Possibly there is a coolant leak from the heater box and it is presenting itself there?

the rubber gasket has expanded and is hanging from some much oil exposure.

That is the counter that illuminates the light to replace the oxygen sensor every 30k miles. You may remove it an throw it away, but be sure it's notsomething above it leaking onto it, like a rust hole in the cowl area letting water in.

I figured it out. My old brake resevior leaked onto the wiring harness and the harness runs on top of the counter. You say i can remove the counter? any issues with doing that?

some states and the feds have laws about removing anti-pollution related devices. might want to check your local and federal laws on this.

I don't even need to do emissions. Im only concerned about mileage and performance
