Under Hood Insulation

Post by RRoller123 »

What have you folks done for under hood insulation on a LARGE BUMP hood? My stock insulation is all chewed up (by the TPH, which I have decided to remove) and I am disinclined to replace it. The custom 2-piece insulator solution is only available up through the small bump hoods.

Thanks!

Pete, how chewed up is the existing pad? If not torn, consider a high heat rubber coating spray? It will give it some rigidity/firmness and dress it up a little. If the old pad is too chewed up this will not work.

That is a great idea and I will look into it! It is not all that bad. but there is a small area where it may be worn nearly through. It is at the point where I cringe every time I open the hood to show anyone the engine. I plan to work on taking out the TPH tomorrow and will inspect it a little more closely.

In the areas where the old felt is thin or cracked use some heavy duty gorilla tape of something else to give it some backing on the underside where no-one will see it. Then spray the visible part.

I will post some pics when I get out to the garage. It's a mess by my standards.

Going to take a COLD run around Plymouth, and do a final oil and filter change for the season. Then get on to cleaning up the cooling system and removing the TPH.
