On the cover of the June issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic magazine, "Top-Down Fun; 20 Great Convertibles for any budget."

You know how this is gonna read: MGB, TR4, Sprite, Alfa Spider, etc. Other nominees: Yugo Cabrio (honest), Renault Alliance, TVR and ... you ready for this? Fiat 1200 Spider. The predecessor to the 124 Spider is a noteworthy and rare car, but Come On! In the $8 - $13k price range, would anybody in their right mind choose a Caravelle over a 124 Spider or an X1/9?

It always amazes me how these cars fly below the radar. I like it because it creates a persona of exclusivity. The basic assumption amongst the uninformed is; a) it's cool, b) it's expensive, c) it's fast. These cars stole my heart many years ago and the love affair continues each time i pull out of the garage.

They are right on two out of three for sure. Mine is definitely cool. Considering what I've spent restoring it, it has definitely been expensive. It's not very fast though!

I agree that there's a love affair - and like any good love affair there are times when I'm elated and times when I'm plunged into despair. You captured it well!

I subscribe to the mag (get it in my mailbox every month).
If you turn to page 8 of the magazine, David LaChance does a good job of mentioning our cars in his "Convertibles for Everyone" column, and apologizing for our cars not being included in the main article.

A back-handed compliment, at best. Our Spider should have been the feature car in the price bracket, with the Jensen or the Caravelle "oh, by the way...". He does offer an acquisition cost of $12k, which is probably fair.

Yes, I must admit I was fully expecting to open the magazine and see a whole page devoted to our cars.
Sadly, we just got the minor mention by David LaChance.
Major bummer....

It will be interesting to observe the "value" of our cars once the Fiata hits the streets.

I hope it doesn't increase, if it does then getting insurance and parts may go up as well.

Silly article as they've in the past had it listed in the top 5, or 7, or whatever. I guess you release a new list every year of the top 20 from way back and it changes even though the cars didn't?

They've been generous to the Spider in the past; I think their article from a few years back was a turning point in respectibility for the cars.
