I tired to do this but the hinges are under the hood behind the grille, so unless I can remove the grill somehow without opening the hood, I can't get to the bolts.

So I went under the car from the passenger side and using my phone, I was able to get a video of the latch. My phone is near the distributor, if that helps any. Is there anything wrong with it? Is it stuck, etc? Link: http://youtu.be/ahHy3dHYCdU
Any help is appreciated. I also tried stabbing at it with a screwdriver from underneath, but to no avail, as it was really hard to tell what I was stabbing at.

The lower spring, smaller of the two, is connected to the latch, that is the piece you have to push towards the drivers side.

Here is a picture of what you were looking at from the passenger side, you can see the backup release cable thru the slot, the primary cable is attached to the bolt.

No to beat a dead horse...but this is the view from the drivers floor. The two hood cables share the same firewall fitting as the positive battery cable, I pointed out the backup release cable with the screwdriver tip. Mine is lopped and covered with electrical tape...I didn't do it so I don't know if it's normal or not. My cable is only about 4 inches and can be easily hid behind the battery cable.

Thank you for the pictures, as the first one is very useful. The second one is different compared to mine. The hood release cable doesn't have a grommet on the firewall, it just goes through the same hole the main wires do.

I really almost have it, I can reach up there with a screw driver, it's just a matter of pushing it in the right place. The only problem is I can't see well and have to go by feel and a sense of where everything is.
