The kit from AR is only on backorder because of the guibo itself. (That was my experience last month). Ask Csaba to substitute it with the heavier duty racing guibo. The extra cost would be the equivalent as going djape's option with the increased shipping from Germany and at the end of the day you're settling for the beefier unit.mikeb1223 wrote:Just want to make sure Lol I am ordering the guibo tonight, Autoricombi has a whole kit for 79 but its on Back Order I was going to get the kit ( guibo, support bearing and 2 u joints) last night and found the bad news out does anyone know how long the back order is?

Not to bad mouth Lada parts... but they have the same problems as other auto manufacturer. Many of the aftermarket items produced for the are not up to the quality standard that we insist on.
The flex disc is a critical part and if it fails it can be catastrophic. In fact, Ive seen one failure which essentially cut a Spider in half - which resulted in totaling the car.... the driver was lucky to escape with out serious injury.
We have flex joints on the way from Italy as we speak.. should be here any day. Or you can always opt for the high grade units which are rated for drivelines in excess of 200Hp.

true. there's plenty sh** quality parts out there, chinese, turkish, made in basement workshop. buy only from reputable sellers, preferably properly aged NOS parts. i myself prefer undamaged used guibo to any new one i can buy.

Rubber is an item with a limited shelf life unfortunately so a NOS Guibo may only be good for a car going into a museum that never gets driven. Rubber ages getting hard and brittle becoming more likely to shatter so I would have reservations about going NOS for Guibo just as I would about buying NOS tires, belts or hoses.
I would have the same reservation about going NOS with anything grease packed as the seals would be deteriorating and the grease separating from its carrier and pressure additives with the pressure additives turning to a gritty paste.

Re: is the Guibo the cause of this???
problem with old tyres is that they're typically not stored in good climate conditions for all of their life. saying this, i did use a set of NOS falken tyres, made way back in 1999, 185/60/13 for past two yearsand 60k kms, on my daily driver with no issues. grip is awesome and i can just imagine what they were like when fresh.
guibo is something that's usually left in a dark corner of warehouse for decades. now, if that storage is in arizona, true, rubber will deteriorate, but i'm using 30+ yr old parts daily and in most cases i have no problems with them. it takes a little experience to determine if part is still usable and that's where reputable sellers should step in. trader should be able and willing to determine if NOS item is still in usable condition, and discard it if it's not.

You will get away with more in other parts of the world. Here in Southern Florida rubber products don't hold up well especially with roadway temps being what they are most of the year. It is not uncommon to see the road surfaces in excess of 120 degrees F with air temps over 115 F on a buisy road. Even a well ventilated garage can be well in excess of 120F much of the year unless the door is left open. Life in a semitropical area does present some challanges.djape1977 wrote:problem with old tyres is that they're typically not stored in good climate conditions for all of their life. saying this, i did use a set of NOS falken tyres, made way back in 1999, 185/60/13 for past two yearsand 60k kms, on my daily driver with no issues. grip is awesome and i can just imagine what they were like when fresh.

Re: is the Guibo the cause of this???
Diagnose the problem before ordering parts. Is the guibo cracked, missing pieces, etc.? Is the bearing support cracked, missing pieces, etc.? Can you move the driveshaft with your hand?
You can replace the guibo with only basic hand tools. To replace the center bearing, the driveshaft must be removed from the car and the new bearing installed with a hydraulic press. At that point, you might as well replace both U-joints, included in the kit.
The discussion is moot if you are in the process of restoring your car; recondition the entire driveshaft. But it sounds like you are in "repair mode" right now, so diagnose and fix only what's broken.

Yeah its in restore mode and daily driver mode Lol I might as well change it all while I have the money Lol I might as well change everything anyway to make a perfect restored so down the road something breaks and it could a been made new with everything else... BTW Thank you AutoRicambi for throwing together that kit with a high performance Guibo instead of the regular one cause my engine is modded YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST AND PLAN ON SPENDING THOUSANDS MORE WITH YOU

Ramzi, are you implying that we should should not be concerned about the shelf life of rubber components that have been sitting around for years? Are you subjecting that to just guibos or others such as tires hoses and timing belts? I'm not sure what you're getting at.Ramzi wrote:Glad to help!
