Pulled the pan on a 2L to repair an oil pan and found this oil screen;

You can save a lot of money buying GENERIC motor oil and filters - even more if you only change the filter and just replace the quart of oil it contains annually. ;>

Personally I'll go with proven quality oils and filters changed per the owners manual.

Watch out, those K&N oil filters are known to be just as bad as the "orange can of death" fram filters. You need to be careful using something just because it has a famous brand name on it. Royal Purple also doesn't have the required zinc levels to be safe in a Fiat TC unless you're adding a supplement.

As i recall, someone posted a study on oil filters and many of the "quality" brands didn't fare so well.

Azruss: Yes that was a great thread! And I remember that there was a huge difference in filters. I now use only the K&N.

That isn't caused by any modern oil or filter - that's from leaving oil and water sitting in a pan for a long time.

Group, I have been using the Wix filters in everything, from my Yamaha to the Dodge pickup, and the Spider of course. In every filter test I have seen Wix is either best or in the top 3. They have an original profile, (FAT), filter for the S2000. I use them in every vehicle I have. Reasonably priced as well. Air filters also.

Thanks very much for the information on the brake tran and oil. Now what would people recommend for radiator fluid and does everyone use high test gas or regular with an additive? For my 1956 Chev I use regular with Lucas additive. :mrgreen:

I use regular Prestone 50/50 with distilled water. Change it every three years, regardless of mileage. Operate your heater for a few minutes every month, year-round, to keep the plumbing in shape.

Unlike your Chevy, the Spider was designed to run on unleaded gas, so no additives are required on that front. Ethanol, however, was not around at the time. So all of your rubber fuel lines must be SAE 30R6 rated if gasoline sold in your area is E10. "All lines" means filler hose and vapor hoses, as well as supply/return. The alcohol in E10 will literally dissolve the rubber lines used in your car when it was built. Depending on model year, some of these lines may run inside the car, under the carpet. This is not a situation you want to take lightly.

If you drive your car only occasionally, Stabil or similar is a good idea, as modern fuel deteriorates quickly. I use 93 octane with a high-compression motor. Others in our club run 89 in unmodified motors.
