I am building a custom front and rear bumper. Just a curved steel tube. Does anyone know what the 78 bumper shocks are inside ??? Can I cut and shorten the stock bumper shock mount by cutting an inch or so out of the smaller diameter forward steel tube.?? Is there a spring inside the full length and, or fluid in the full length. Does anyone have a cut away view or has anyone cut one apart and photographed it ????
As always , thanks for the insight.

Re: Bumper shock mount modification
They are EZ to drill out. Pressure and oil inside so drill thru some cardboard to protect yourself. Push in to desire length then add a set screw. Done!

never had one apart like you are asking .... I would bet that you do not have the inch that you need to cut off of the end.... no spring ... pressurized fluid .... wizards fix would be the way to go ...but obviously you will loose the "shock function" of the bumper

Thanks guys. I'll try the Wizard solution. Did you drill the psi relief hole in the inner forward smaller tube or in the outer tube that eventually became the set screw hole?? Also is the set screw tapped through both tubes or only through the outer tube and pressed against the inner tube
Again thanks for the suggestion
