Heat shield under shifter and center console

Post by joelittel »

Does anyone know where to get one of these, or what I could use in it's place? Mine has seen better days and as long as it's out of the car I would like to replace it.

Thanks for the reply, but it's not that foam piece I'm looking to replace. I'm talking about the one that's stiff on one side, like it's been fiberglassed, and fluffy like fiberglass home insulation on the other. My best guess is that it's a sound deadening and heat shielding material. It does cover the same area of the center console as the one you linked above though.

Years ago I was fortunate to have a boat manufacturing place down the road. When I needed something similar, I went there and ended up with a chunk of sound deadening/insulating material they used around the engine box.
Snoop around and see if there is anything similar in your area?

you could go to the scrap yard and pull out some carpet pad from any car and use rubber undercoat on it
then cut to shape

hope this helps.joe

I would just go with industry standard Dynamat whenever possible.

To make the original material, first catch and then skin 200 cats...
