79 diff question...

Post by garion »

I was doing some finishing tasks on my 79, before I drive 25 miles for an alignment. (dont trust any of the local places in my small town)...

One of those tasks was to empty and fill the diff.. It looks like my diff has been leaking out of the back cover for a while.. So I decided I would take it off, clean it up, and maybe add some sealant.. Well... It looks like two things:

1. The PO damaged the cover slightly, causing the leak.
2. I don't have a gasket!.. Did they come with a gasket from the factory????

I had some gasket material around, so I went and created one, so I have one now.. Just found it odd that it didn't have one.

I saw that.. That was the first thing I checked when i found I didn't have one... But.. I have seen things where they come from the factory without gaskets, but when you do maintenance on them, you're supposed to ada a gasket.. Hence my question :)

Its all good, I have one now.. I had a bunch of gasket material and an exacto knife. I also used some sealant too. Should be good to go.

Ironically, I actually have gotten a thumbs up from Stallone.. I was an extra in the "Balboa" movie when they were filming in Vegas.. Interesting experience.. Except when they literally took TWO HOURS to throw in the towel.. Throw it over hand, no throw it under hand, bunch it up first, etc... etc.. etc..
