Front seat removal

I have looked at all posts; but still have trouble removing driver seat. Passenger seat moves forward and backward enough to get to allen wrench nuts. Driver seat moves back enough to get forward nuts out. However, I just can't get seat to slide forward enough. It only goes forward to where the two interlocking tracks are roughly even. I removed the front bolts thinking that they might be interfering with a screw head from seat bottom frame. based on my sight lines and feeling with my fingers, these screw heads are not interferring with travel (i.e. hitting the bolt heads).
I have tried the back and forth but no change. It seems to be hitting something very solid (not rust).
Any ideas appreciated

I've seen this before although usually it won't go back far enough to get out the front bolts.

But anyway, it is pretty much a force thing as unlikely as it might seem. Put the front bolts back in place. Get some lube on the seat tracks and then with the adjustment lever up start forcing it back and forth hard. With any luck you'll get it to advance a little more each time.

Once when we were pulling seats out of a parts car we had to drill through the seat pan to reach the front bolts. Once we had it off though I wanted to see why it wouldn't slide. I finally got the rails to break free with a BFH.

This is first car I have ever worked on. Two victories today: removal of seats and got horn to work (bad steering column contacts)

Great. so why are you pulling the seats? Rust repair? Insulation?

From Northwest Indiana, about 30 miles from Chicago. Two reasons I pulled seat:
I have gas smell, mainly in trunk; buy when car sits, everything smells. After reading the posts about this, I pulled seats so I could easily see the fuel lines in cabin. Intan car for 20 minutes; used talcum powder; no obvious leaks. i will now replace all the fuel lines and vents in trunk. Also, the car had a rusty floor and wanted to see how they repaired it;

I want to clear up this smell issue. I just ordered new seat upholstery. Need to know how to take off seats; don't want to start that project until gas smell fixed.

PO had used heater hose for main fuel line. Probably not a good idea.
Only replacement hose I have not obtained is the rubber elbow tank full one. Does this one cause a lot of problems?

Can it perish? Sure - sounds like you've checked it out though. Is it a problem to replace? Can be - putting it in hot water for 5 mins can help.

Gas smell can also come from either the charcoal canister missing / disconnected or full, or if the crankcase breather is venting to the atmosphere instead of the air cleaner.

Very similar experience. I had the gas smell in the trunk, and also in the rest of the car but less strong, after sitting. Was baffled by it, until finally I found it to be a faulty gas cap seal. Replaced the gas cap and the smell immediately went away.
