Traveller SAE 90 All Mineral

Post by TX82FIAT »

Folks, NAPA in my area stopped carrying the GL1 non-EP for some reason, I'm sure I can ask them to special order. However, when looking for alternatives I came across a tractor supply house down the road that has this. "All Mineral SAE 90" Ford tractor transmission fluid made by Traveller. it is made for tractors from 1939 to 1952. looks like good stuff but under additives it states - Additive Type - Premium with no detail. This seems to contradict the "all mineral" in the title but could just be some standard fill in. 2 gallons for $17.99.

Anyone using this oil in thier gearbox. Seems GL1 is no additive so I'm confused. I'll call the manufacturer.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

The MT90 is good stuff and I have used that in the past.

I called Warren Distrabution yesterday out of Omaha, Nebraska and Spoke with a Doug Schlott. He assured me there were no additives in the SAE 90 All mineral oil. API Service GL-1. he said he is positive that no friction modifiers and extreme pressure additives are used in this GL1 mineral oil. At $17.99 for two gallons I am stocked up for a few years to come. This will save me a few dollars from redline MT90 or MTL.

I used to have an old mechanic friend that swore by tasting a little bit of engine oil to see if the motor was good. He would pull the dip stick out, dap his finger on the dipstick and taste a little bit of it. Claimed he could taste worn bearings. So if you are unsure, send me a sample, and ill get him to do a taste test. LOL

thanks TX82FIAT for the investigative work. I just came across the same product in a tractor supply store in Michigan as that is the last thing keeping me from a test drive and none of the other 4 auto parts store on the main strip in town have GL1.
I waited to check here before buying a big ole tub of it, but I'll be heading back in the morning. Excellent find!
