slotted rotor ok with old 78 style pad springs?

I'm replacing front brake rotors, pads, springs and clips. It's my first time so taking the slow road. I don't really get how the outside pad pushes against the rotor when the cylinder thing seems to just push from the inside. I guess that part is built into the sliding mechanism? It would probably be a good idea for me to understand this.

anyway, the outside spring and pad seem to seat ok, and when I hand spin the rotor, it's all good.
but when I situate the inner spring and slide the pad in and try the hand spin- the slots in the rotor catch on the inside of the spring clip.
I went to a non stock, slotted rotor from IAP- bad move? did I create collision points in there that won't work with my old style- long springs?
Might that straighten out when I get the caliper part attached with wedges inserted?
It doesn't seem that it would as the outside set seem to seat cleanly.
Maybe I need to sand something down in the seat of the inside spring clip so it sits a little differently?

The slider is what allows both pads to come into contact when braking. with no pressure, the outside pad does stay in contact with the rotor, but with no pressure on it, the wear is minimal. check to make sure you dont have your spring in backward. Have you measured the thickness of the new rotors to see how they compare with the old rotor.

From the picture it looks like the outer pad spring is correct (scalloped edge away from rotor, straight edge on the inside. ) The inside spring pad should be the same (straight edge facing rotor.)

Just out of curiosity where did you get your pad springs? Big box auto store?

Coincidentally, I just did mine yesterday and have the same problem on my 81. It's as though the pad spring is too wide (wider than the pads ) so they make contact first on the rotor. I also noticed the scallop cut out for the piston to clear is too small on my front brake so the piston boot hits the edge of the pad spring.

I am wondering if the two piece brake pad springs is what we need?

I was able to get the Inside clip edges to lay flat after some slight bending and shaping.
so that worked for me.
Would like to try those smaller springs just to see how they work.

Glad you got it working. Small spring clips solved my problem. My OE brakes call for the small clips, contrary to the local auto parts store.

By now I should know better than to trust advice that doesn't come from this Site, a fellow Fiat owner or specialty vendor
