The Abarth was a 124 CSA, built between 1972-1975.
I believe this is how it works, according to my service manual:
AS = 1438cc
BS = 1608cc
CS = 1592cc and 1756cc
CS2= 1995 carbed
CSO=1995 FI
1972 124 Spider (Don)
1971 124 Spider (Juan)
1986 Bertone X19 (Blue)
1978 124 Spider Lemons racer
1974 X19 SCCA racer (Paul)
2012 500 Prima Edizione #19 (Mini Rossa)
Ever changing count of parts cars....It's a disease!

If it is an Abarth, it will have a gold ticket on the back seat for the Chocolate Factory. Also independant rear suspension.

Hi there -

Fiat 124 is the series
The A stands for the first series, as always with Fiat VINs
The S stands for Spider, the Coupe got a C (so there are 124 AC, 128 AC etc. ).
So the first series was called Fiat 124 AS.
The second series got called - BS. The derivate with the bigger eingine - BS-1
Then there came the CS-1 - after that it got a bit inconsistent, the CS-2 was a minor overhaul (engine change and reard lights), but nobody understands the CS-0.
DS-0 was the pre-series of the DS-1
CS-A was? Right, the Abarth (sport) version of the CS - the abarth versions always have the A behind the model id.

Does this help?

ciao,
Stefan

P.S.@fiat218 - YOUR CAPS LOCK KEY IS STUCK, THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF COBOL PROGRAMMING ARE GONE SO NOWADAYS CAPS MEANS YOU ARE SHOUTING, WHICH IS NOT REALLY POLITE

CS2 was changed to CS0 to start complying with the 17 digit vin numbering scheme. Its the same.
