Hola everyone. Truly international; I'm an Englishman living in Spain who recently bought an Italian car from a German working for a Korean owned company in England.
It was a long search, but worth the wait.
"Spiddy" is a beautiful black 1985 Pininfarina and is in totally original condition. The German (Klaus) bought it new and treated it like a baby. All the original documents and full service history came with the car as well as several spare parts and a complete spare set of Volumex rims which he bought but never put on! The rear screen has a split in it and the drivers seat has a small split on the side bolster. I need to investigate a strong smell of petrol permeating through the car, but other than these small points, the car is absolutely spot on - the only frustration being the owners manual is in Italian! If anyone out there has an English version going spare, I'd be extremely gratefull.
124 Spiders are rare in Spain and very expensive. I looked at a rust bucket and the owner wasn't prepared to budge on the 9k euros asking price!
As "Spiddy" was being unloaded from the transporter, an elderly Spaniard drove slowly by, stopped, reversed, got out, wandered over, asked if it was ours, enquired as to what it was, made lots of excitable Spanish remarks, went back to his car, returned with his camera, took lots of shots, asked us to pose beside it, took more pics, exchanged names and addresses and from what we could understand was going to put it in a magazine or local paper!
Any way, thanks for sparing the time to read all this. If ever you're in Spain...........

Hello Spiddy, and welcome!
What a great story - the Pinn style is truly ageless. Sounds like you've found a genuine treasure; I can't wait to see pictures!

Thanks Baltobernie, when I've worked out how to do it I'll post a couple of pics. I'm not exactly what you'd call "computer literate".

Welcome to the forum Spiddy. A forum, I might add, that originates in the USA, so you can add another country to the list related to your car! Can't wait to see pictures of it.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like quite a nice ride. Black is a fairly rare color and looks great on the spider. The fuel smell could be a cracked or leaking rubber fuel hose. I would go ahead and replace all of the fuel hoses just given the age. It isn't that difficult and can be done inexpensively over a weekend.

Re: Hola from Spain
welcome! truly an international story. I'd check out a fuel smell quickly, with the FI fuel pressure is about 45psi and even a small leak can cause a disaster. If the hoses to the injectors leak, fuel can be ignited by the starter. Another possibility, if the fuel odor is inside the car is that the steel fuel line under the carpet has a pin hole.
