What fuel grade should I use in my Spider 2000?
The only changes to the engine is my new 32/36 DFEV.
87, 89, or 93? (octane)

Re: What Fuel Grade should I use?
use the lowest octane without detonation. I use 87 exclusively with stock compression
Re: What Fuel Grade should I use?
Lower ocane?.. I never thouht of that. What ill effects would be expected with using octane that is too high? I have always heard the higher the better with these cars. I will try it next time at the pump.
Re: What Fuel Grade should I use?
I have what I believe to be detonation, if I have been driving it for a long time, it will idle rough/stall at idle, and I can hear something that sounds like detination.
I'm hoping that my new carb and higher octane gas will remedy this.

Re: What Fuel Grade should I use?
pretty much impossible to get detonation at idle unless the timing is so far advanced the engine won't run. The engine needs to be under load to have detonation occur, or seriously overheated.
As for lower octane, your engine produces the most power on the lowest possible octane until you experience detonation. Running higher octane than needed will produce less hp, and of course wastes lots of money

Wow, it'd be a miracle if I could find higher than 91 around here
edit: how can you tell if your getting detonation?

Re: What Fuel Grade should I use?
Well after installing my 32/36 DFEV, The problem went away. So it was just a crappy stock carb.
Re: What Fuel Grade should I use?
European octane levels are listed as RON, where in the US we use an average: (RON+MON)/2. So, in other words, 91 RON in Europe = our 87 octane here.Leesfer wrote:You ONLY have 95 and 98?Tappy wrote:here in Belgium whe only have 95 octane and 98 octane @ the pumps ....i use 98 V-power from totalfina if this is any help
