replacing distributor seal, is timing necessary?

Post by ylbill »

I'm going to be replacing the seal on my distributor. Is it necessary to do the timing after replacing the seal? Thanks

the easiest way to do what you want is to get the motor to top dead center before removing the distributor. line all of the timing marks up then remove the distributor. but if you have never replaced a distributor seal in a fiat. be aware. it has its own challenges. The pin can only be removed in one direction, it will be very hard to remove. there have been a few distributors in my life where i could not get the pin out. I have made a special tool that i use in my air chisel to remove pins.
Good luck. All of this being said yours might come out real easy. Remember top dead center on a fiat is firing to cylinder #4
