Size (I.D.) of woven fabric covered rubber fuel supply hose?

Post by njoconnor »

Earlier in the fall I noted some very slow fuel leaks from the front area of the fuel tank of my 72 carbed 124. After a night it stopped, and I got busy with other (non-FIAT) stuff.

Tonight I was out prepping the car for a short trip to the back garage/shed and cranked the engine (no start) to check on the battery, etc. Everything was fine, except the fuel leak started again, this time dripping regularly. Jacked the car, LR tire off, and eventually found that the woven covered rubber fuel supply hose was leaking from under a corroded screw clamp where it connected to the metal fuel line. I figure the fuel pump primed and filled the lines during cranking, and the supply line is flowing back to the rear.

Looked at various parts sites (and searched here), and can't determine whether I need 7 or 8 mm ID line. Anyone have a quick answer? Except for snipping off the rusted screw clamp, it looks to be a fairly straight-forward job (except for threading the new hose through the trunk wall.... ), and both the rubber return hose and the metal lines going forward are intact and not leaking.

Any additional suggestions/warnings appreciated. Thanks.

since you're buying new clamps, get the FI style of banded clamp. They don't cut into the hose like the standard worm drive style
