Temperature Sensor and harness

Post by sjwcougs »

The temp sensor is not showing the correct resistance with the ohm meter at various temps. I ordered a new one via IAP. In addition to this I can't seem to get a closed circuit with the meter on the harness that connects to the temp sensor. This runs into a bundle of wires. I need some help. Thanks in advance.

To the temp lamp, approx 10 ohms ( measuring thru bulb to grnd ) or for gauge will read resistance of gauge. Im not sure which sensor youre checkin. Otherwise if the other end was dis-connected, an open, and open to grnd. grouning the other end nearly 0... hope this helps?

those two wires from the temp sensor lead into the computer, so you won't get a reading. You can only check the continuity of each wire from each end of the harness

Crap...engine now barely starting and running after reconnecting the harness to the temp sensor. Could I have damaged something (ECU?) by checking resistance with ohm meter on the harness? Or did I mess up the connection on the harness with the probes of the ohm meter and getting a bad connection? I was told that the ECU is pretty tough and this very unlikely, but... Kind of sounds like when the connection to the temp sensor when it slipped off while driving. I would like to get a new harness for the temp sensor since I have a new sensor on the way. Where can I get these?

the sensor uses a standard Bosch connector, most parts stores carry these pigtails.

Thanks Mark! Being in the Fiat family is a lot of work, but fun. I've sure learned a lot over the past month. Headed to my first fiat club meeting here in Seattle next week.

if you're replacing the pigtail, a big improvement can be made by using a BMW connector. Instead of the tight little wire bale that holds the connector on, the bimmer unit has easy to use spring type that makes it a snap to remove
