The DC Fiats club spent a fun morning and early afternoon rambling over the winding roads of Fairfax County Virginia on 15 July, in and around historic Clifton, on the first (potentially annual) "Summer Clifton Run". Seventeen Fiats, including 12 Spiders, 2 X19's, an 850, a 124 coupe and two 500's--one a 1966 500F and the other 46 years newer! About 25 drivers and navigators made this run on Sunday, starting at members Dale and Wanda Crothers' house in Springfield, VA. (Our newest member, Phil made the run to include the long ride to get there and the long ride home, with his 78 Spider which up until a week before, had zero compression in all cylinders!) The weather participated nicely with partly cloudy skies, and combined with the early morning start, had the club driving in mid-July with reasonable temperatures--if you call 90+ reasonable. Plenty of rolling hills, beautiful pastures and an ending point at the Paradise Springs winery for munchies and locally procuced wines. The unanimous vote was that this run was an overwhelming success.
Our next event is August 26, a drive I've sponsored for the last three years. Details here: http://www.dcfiats.org/events/

Re: Clifton, Virginia July 15
Many thanks again to Dale and Wanda. This was my first DCFiats drive, and more than I expected. I expected a gentlemanly, leisurely drive through the countryside, and instead participated in a brisk, enthusiastic, gear-rowing, threshold braking romp - or at least it seemed that way to me. First hard drive since the G&S tune up and I was really proud how well my little car did. This is only going to get better! Very much enjoyed the vineyard and the company at the finish, an looking forward to the four county run next month.
