STARTING AFTER 10 YEAR STORAGE!

Post by DEENAC »

I parked my Spider when I bought a new 2002 Miata. Trying now to get it running again. This is an 81 Spider 2000. replaced spark plugs and wires, replaced all fuel and lines, getting good spark and turning over but won't keep running beyond a few seconds. Sound like its only hitting on 1 or 2 cylinders. This is a fuel injector model. Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks!

If it has been sitting, I'd guess the injectors might have gummed up and be sticking. If it sort of runs and you can pull the injector clips off and see if there is a difference in the engine. I'd suggest pulling the injectors if they are not firing and have them properly cleaned and flow tested. Here it was about $25 each. Some have fed the injectors 12V directly to see if they will break any resistance inside. There is a post/thred somewheres on the forum about this.

My bet is that the injectors are all stuck. The best method is to remove them and have them cleaned, but there are other ways to get them working

What compelled you to keep the spider once you got the miata? What happened to the miata?

Inquiring minds. Good luck with the revival.

My first car was a Spider , and I've had 2 more since. I love the car. I test drove the Miata and loved it also. I drove it home the same day. So I parked the Fiat in the barn. couldn't bear to sell it. I am still driving the Miata but thought with gas prices what they are my husband could save some $$ driving the Fiat to work instead of his pick up truck. Fiat is in pretty good shape if I could just get it started, LOL!

Mines been sitting going on probably 15 years. I've tried using the better gas mileage route with my wife but she isn't biting.
