Post by m3810 »

Hey All,

Is it possible to replace the valve guides without taking the head to a machine shop.? If anyone has done this could you please give detail on how you did it.

Many Thanks

guide replacement

The engine is in process of rebuild so it is apart ( head is off engine) I guess I should have asked the question differently. Do the guides have to be pressed out or can I do it on my own and if so does anyone have any tips on how they did it.

Thanks Mark

Hi Mark

A press is needed, any machine shop would charge but not much
for this, if you have the know how and tools to do this type of work
i'd say go for it . It might be a challenge without the right tools
though a machine shop that works on import engines will be able
to press them out for you np the part that may be harder to find
is having or doing the valve shims after your done with the head
work . Someone with fiat shims will be needed for this but with
people here on the forum you can find a shop or person who can
shim it !
