Not paying attention

Opened stop at bottom of my radiator, '69 124, drained the antifreeze, with plans of burping. I am guessing the radiator is only half of the total content of the system. Already put 1 gal of 50/50 in and the radiator was full. The car will be sitting all winter, only will drive in the spring and summer. Do I need to start all over again and drain? Started the process because the upper radiator hose kept collapsing, thought maybe there would be some air bubbles. Thanks, Mik

What re you trying to do? Make sure it does not freeze in winter, or burp it so it's ready in the springs?

You can burp it now, you do not have to drain the whole system to do that. Not sure why the upper hose was collapsing, it's not normally a sign of air in the system. Maybe the radiator cap is not letting coolant back into the system?

I ran it for about 10-15min without radiator cap, no hose collapse, put rad cap back on and ran a little longer, no collapse. I think the reason it kept collapsing was the reservoir had no water in it. Heat gauge reached the proper range, upper and lower hoses had heated up so the thermostat seems ok. I think problem solved by refilling very slowly and filling reservoir 3/4 full. The reason I was burping was to keep upper hose from collapsing so I can run the car and work with the idle jets. I will be storing now until May. Gives me plenty of time to get new top on. The car will then be finished. Thanks for the help.
