Got the front about 20" up on jack stands. Both inner fender liners removed. I find a bit of play on right wheel at full lock
turned to the right. I'm gonna try to replace the outer tie rod assembly first. It's what appears to have a bit of slack in it.
I know it's sold as an assembly, and I'd rather do this, than just a tie rod end.
any advice?

I'm trying to isolate the noise, so don't want to keep changing parts. I will update the other side once I resolve this issue,
but am planning to buy the tube with both ball joint ends per side.

clicking noise when turning right --Found!!!

Post by minimike »

Finally for those of you following this thread. I found the noise. I put the car up on a lift and turned the wheel all the way to the right. It happens that the wheel weights and the side of the tire were both hitting the upper A arm. I was shocked to find out this is the noise. I've ground the A arm back about 1/8" to releave it, and figure that my rotors are not as wide as they should be. I may make an 1/8" spacer and glue it to the rotors with silicone to alleviate this issue. I'm glad I found this, aside from cutting the weights, I might have had a side wall blowout on the inside of the tire.

On to the non working turn signals now. Of course they used to work fine!

The car came stock with 5mm thick steel wheel spacers. If they are missing that might be the problem. 1/8" might not be enough. 5mm is just over 3/16" I have 8 spare spacers.

Solved- Spider-clicking noise when turning right

Post by minimike »

I must have two posts about this but I thought I had answered this last nite, must be on another post.

I found not only that the inner wheel weights were hitting the upper A arm, but the tire side wall was rubbing at full
lock of the steering wheel. My thoughts are the rotors are not the same depth/ height as oem parts. I'm planning on
putting a spacer disc under the wheel to move it away from the A frame.

What type of rims are on the car? Stock or aftermarket?

Stock steel rims.
Are the spacers steel or aluminum?
Any idea what it might cost to send the spacers to NY?

Stock 5mm thick spacers are steel. $5 to ship to you, paypal what you want/think is fair.

Matt,
I got a set of spacers coming to me from down south, but the mainland. I figured from HI was just too far to ship. Thanks for the heads up on the wheel spacers. No one else ever mentioned that.
I've not been driving the car all summer as I didn't want to hazard a breakdown. Now that I know it's the spacers, I'll have this
car out for some exercise this fall and winter top down of course. Full heat on.
