Fuel Vent Hose in Trunk

What are people using for the fuel vent hose from the 3-way collector out of the trunk?

From the tank to 3-way collector is 5/16" (8mm). From the collector out of the trunk my old line reads Cavis Benz 7x12. Are people replacing this with 1/4" hose or ordering a special hose from some where? The exit from the trunk looks too small for 8mm line.

Good question. I thought that was 8mm / 5/16" hose. I just replaced the other three and haven't got to the one your referring to.

1/4" works just fine. As I removed the clear plastic vent hose during my restoration, it split lengthwise. Imagine all the Spiders out there running around with this ancient plastic hose carrying fuel vapor 3 feet from exhaust components

Well I was able to get 5/16" hose installed through the vent hole. Two things helped. First, keep the exterior of the hose lubed up with dish soap and work it through the hole from under the car.

Second, make a condom by cutting the finger off a latex glove to keep the end you are feeding through clear of debris. A tiny rubber band, like the kind for braces, will keep your fuel hose condom in place.

It was kind of like giving your Fiat a colonoscopy

Can you shoot me an image of where all those hoses connect? This diagram has helped me immensely already. Thanks for the thread. The previous owner ripped all mine out all the way under the car, then gave me half the hoses back. LOL!!!

This post is very helpful. Today I replaced the 3 hoses going to the 3 way connector. I just need to replace the line which goes to the vapor hardline. Anyone know where to get a replacement hose for the large one which goes to the tank in this pic?

Also, I;m pretty sure most of the gas smell is coming from the fuel filler rubber hose. It seems the PO has repaired the rubber with some kind of hose repair kit. Will be replacing that ASAP. [quote="WYSpider"]Three Hoses from Tank To 3-Way Connector

Did you check for the Cavis 14x21 line at C. Obert or Midwest Bayless?

I think Midwest Bayless only has 7mm Cavis and it is new old stock. Not very interested in old stock hoses.

The elbow filler hose can be purchased from the usual Fiat vendors. It is an absolute bear of a job; a lift will make it "bearable". I'm not sure if the fumes, awkward location, or tight space is the worst problem, but it can be done with both the filler tube and tank in place. Buy two new clamps, too.

What about the fill overflow (white) tube? Anyone know the size of that one?

I'm up for the challenge! I think I have a little less then a half a tank left, so what's the best way to get the old gas out safely of course? Siphon most of it? Will be working outside on it in my grandmas driveway.

Fiat88, siphon sounds like a good approach. I would probably pull the sending unit and siphon from there. You could check the condition of the inside of the tank at the same time.

If you do remove the sending unit please shoot a picture of the bottom of it so I can see what kind of fuel filter is there (if any).

On the carb cars, there is a bronze (OE) or nylon (aftermarket) "sock" over the end of the pickup tube. Not a great design, as it erodes over time with friction over the tank bottom. Another reason to install a maintainable prefilter on the fuel pump.
