Carb spacers

Post by manoa matt »

Has anybody fooled around with carb spacers? Is it worth the effort?

I haven't seen any commercially avilable spacers, but it looks pretty easy to make one. Height and internal design would need to be worked out.

Here are some links to info on carb spacers:

I'm afraid I don't have any room for a spacer under my dual IDFs. The #1 air horn is almost touching the hood as it is.
Try it and let us know the difference. I wonder if you'd have to rejet the carb for the extra intake volume.

With dual carbs, I guess you don't need anymore torque or power.

I got a 32ADFA with a sprint free flow air cleaner. I should have plenty of hood clearance. Now that I think about it, any spacer would require longer manifold studs. I thought about adding a spare carb/manifold gasket to get another 1/4 of an inch to see what effect that would have, But it may be more trouble than its worth.

How do you know if your carb needs to be rejetted? What noises or type of performance indicates the need to rejet?

If you know how to read your plugs, that will tell you whether you're running lean or rich...or you could have your car dynoed and that will map the fuel and ignition. I ran mine on a dyno with a Holley carb and found it ran rich until it hit higher rpms, then it leaned out significantly. I'm hoping to run the car with the dual idfs to see whether or not I have it jetted correctly.
