Timing belt tensioner bearing

Post by jaownbey »

I'm changing the timing belt, and it seems to all be going well but I was wondering how necessary it is to change the tensioner bearing...I think I all ready know the answer as everything I have read on the forum indicates that it's a good idea, but would cleaning it up and repacking grease suffice? If it is necessary, any advice on the best source for them?

back in my less affluent days, i ran with bearings that werent perfectly smooth without any issue. It should be a sealed bearing, so you would have to get creative to repack. the question-is the gain worth the risk. timing belt failure due to a seized bearing is expensive.
