door weatherstripping question
door weatherstripping question
I have a 1978 spider and the weatherstripping around the door opening along the rocker panel sill plates is bad and needs replacing. I see a couple of vendors that sell it but not sure of the quality. Vick's sells it in a one piece that you cut to fit and it will do both door openings. IAP sells it by each door so you have to buy 2 pieces. I was wondering if it can be purchased from a different vendor like Softseal? Anyone one have good or bad information on the weatherstripping or vendors? Is adhesive required to install? Thanks

Re: door weatherstripping question
I purchased some by-the-foot from an upholstery shop. It matched the shape perfectly but had a different texture on the plastic part. This would have been fine if I replaced both, but the driver's side was fine so I left it stock. A sharp eye could catch it. I didn't use adhesive and it is very secure.
My experience.

upholstery supply houses carry a variety of windlaces. this consists of round rubber tubing attached to a vinyl or rubber "U" strip with a metal interior. can be bought with the tube and U in line or at 90 degrees. also different sizes of tubing. Boat shops carry such stuff as well.

So it's just windlace? Mine is so worn out I thought it was rubber weatherstripping. I have a good friend who has an upholstery shop and I know he has tons of windlacing.azruss wrote:upholstery supply houses carry a variety of windlaces. this consists of round rubber tubing attached to a vinyl or rubber "U" strip with a metal interior. can be bought with the tube and U in line or at 90 degrees. also different sizes of tubing. ken, i used windlace when mine wore out after a couple of years. It works great. biggest issue is what to do at the ends.

There should be a small rubber cap at the end by the vent window, and a large rubber cap by the door.
