82 fi cutting out at cruising speeds

I have been driving my 82FI and recently it began cutting out at cruising speeds in 2nd-5th gear. It runs great at idle and performs well under acceleration. It cuts out when cruising about 55mph between 2200 and 2600 rpms. I had some debri in fuel tank so I installed a large canister type fuel filter between the tank and fuel pump and replaced the inline fuel filter but no improvement. I know I have run some serious junk thru the new fuel pump that came with the car and the pump makes a different sound than it did when I first installed it. I have installed new plugs and wires. The rotor and cap don't look bad. I think I may have ruined the fuel pump although it still operates but wanted to get advice before I started spending more money.

Could be the TPS. The throttle position switch is the balck thingy with wires on it on the intake opposite where the gas pedal cable actuates the trhottle. it tells the ECu when you are at idle or WOT. The ECU uses this to enrich the mixture when you are trying to accelerate hard AND to shut off the injectors when you let the pedal off until it sees revs below a certain RPM. It could be faulty or mis-positioned. Just one of many possibiliites.
