Oil type/viscosity 81 Spider

Post by loc8tor »

I have searched and searched and still am not 100% sure what I should use in the fiance's Spider. I have read that 15w40, or 10w30, or Mobil 1 5w40 is what to use. I dont want to start another thread about oil on here, just a simple answer as to what to use in this engine. Thanks

I'd bet that Shell Rotella 15W/40 is the most used oil by members here, me included. Available just about everywhere, even Walmart.

my heart sagged a bit when I saw the title  , but I'll second the 15-40 Rotella or Castrol Syntec

I'd run 20w50. The Fiat tolerances are quite loose. Synthetic would be a great idea on a fresh motor, but it tends to leak on older motor. The seals don't seem to like it once they have had conventional oil for years and years.

The correct answer is, it depends on where you live and what type of driving you do.

3 votes 15-40 rotella

20w50 if you live in the hot southwest

20w50 springs and summers with 10w40 for falls and winters has never gone wrong for me.

Thanks for the input....I decided on running the 15w40 Motorcraft(since I work for Ford) synthetic blend. With a can of BG MOA for some added Zinc. It does seem to carry more oil pressure with this oil. Maybe next oil change I will try the 10w40 and just see which the engine likes better. I did notice a small oil spot under the car will check it for leaks next time I drive it to work. THANKS!
