Rusted gas tank starting issues.
Rusted gas tank starting issues.
Hey guys So i had the Fiat up and out of comminsion for four weeks and went to start her and she wouldn't start. The fuel filter was brown as the gas in it was to. Replaced fuel filter and bam started perfect. SO i drove to denver about 60 miles each way 120 mile. The fuel filter is brown again and the car doesnt want to start without starting fluid. This is crazy and i know all the fuel lines are new. I'm thinking theres a ton of junk in the gas tank and this is the problem. I'm thinking of pulling the tank and doing the bebe trick to remove all junk. Anyone have any ideas?

You can remove the sender from the tank and look into it with a flashlight (no smoking!!!!). If there is lots of rust in the tank you will see it easily.

Had the same problem with my son's 79. It doesn't get any better on its own. Gotta pull the tank and clean her out. Our pickup filter was a crumbly piece of $$$$. I found a pickup filter at Napa that worked great. You should be able to find my thread with a search. I listed the Napa part number and installation details. I also provided the info to Mark.

Well i'm still going thru the car and ill be pulling the tank soon to fix and go through to her cleaned. Also there's a air leak in the carb. somewhere because when i spray starting fluid under it near the engine side on the bottom it revs higher for a second then drops along with when i pick up the fuel filter it bubbles and both ends of the filter have no leaks. Taking her to a Fiat mechanic in Denver to have them go thru the car to give me an idea of where to start of where i should being my mechanical restore of vital parts first.
