On the road again I hope!

Hi Guys and Gals,
Some one recently gave me a 78 spider as a parts car, but when I went to pick it up it was in such good shape I decided to put it on the road again; now here I know is one of many dilemas I have changed vac hoses cleaned the carb, set the dwell and timing but the only way I can get it to run is to place a shop cloth quater folded over the carb and it purrs along at 1100 rpm. checked the seal around the carb and manifold doesn't seem to be leaking there. Going out to work on it a while if any body can clue me in please do so.

almost sounds like its not gettin enough gas and too much air.

Here is another mystery closed the fuel air mix and still runs with the shop cloth

just looks like the shop cloth dampens the air flow so it doesn't pull too much air in.
