Question while changing timing belt

Looking at the union on the front of the timing belt cover: I know that the temp sender is mounted on top and should be underneath. It looks to me like the hole union should be reversed 180 degrees so that the smaller-hole end is facing the passenger side of the car. I can't clearly see it in my manual. (As opposed to mounting the sender in the hole underneath and leave the union as shown -- assuming the two holes are the same size / thread).



What is the reason for the restriction on one side? What would be the result of having it inverted (other than it broke the connector and made it sometimes pull off when you lifted the hood, causing the engine to stall.

Getting the rad and fan out wasn't too bad tonight except for the Death by a Thousand One-Eighth Turns on the right hand side radiator retaining nut. I couldn't squeeze a ratchet in there beside the air filter box.

that tee should be reversed! The restriction should point towards the thermostat. The air bleed should be on top (logical) and the temp sender on the bottom

Thanks. His hired, professional mechanic did that. Easy to remedy at least.

I was looking for the answer to this one. Coolant tee was installed backward by PO, with temp sensor on top and bleed plug on bottom. Looked just like this picture. I put it back correctly, but wasn't positive that the restrictor went toward passenger side. Thanks Mark!
