oil pump pulley position?

Post by deacon »

I am finishing the replacement of the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, et. I wondered if the oil pump pulley has to be positioned (turned) in a particular position based on a mark on the pulley. If so, why is that? There is a reference in the shop manual I have to position it at 32 degrees if I remember. Sorry if this is a odd or dumb question. The Fiat continues to be a great "educational" tool.

the aux shaft position is important due to the fuel pump lobe. I align the pulley mark with the tensioner pivot bolt, approx 1 o'clock

Thanks Mark. What would be the result of it not being in the right position?

It will hit the crank and put a nice hole in the block. If ever the block is apart , you can cut the lobe off the shaft and set that pully anywhere,

And that is just the block. I was told that the connecting rod that hits the aux shaft could also suffer damage. I have not check mine closely ... will do so in the next few days as I start working on it again.
