Leaky Transmission
Today I decided to tackle my leaky transmission. I also had a stripped threads on of the bolts holes. well I removed the pan Drilled out the stripped hole and put a helicoil in it. The bolts are 6mm by the way. After that I put on the new gasket and tighten everything up filled the transmission and went on a test drive. Drove about 15 miles. After I returned home I let the car sit for about 5 min Then moved it into the garage and notice a small spot on the ground about 1.5 inches in dia. Damn thing is still leaking . Is there a better gasket then the cardboard style that they sell? Am I missing something? I read the post about not using RTV/gasket maker. Any ideas?

Re: Leaky Transmission
there are other spots in can leak from. I believe the cardboard gaskets are the best. Was the pan flat? no raised areas around the bolt holes?

Yes the pan was flat. Prior to gasket replacement it was leaking in the rear of the pan. but I had a stripped bolt hole there also. I repaired that. Now that you mention it. it could be leaking at the case. I did check those nuts and they were tight. So Cal Mark wrote:there are other spots in can leak from.
