Is this the right intake manifold to use with my DFEV?

Post by Fiat88 »

One of our forum member's has this manifold for sale. Is this the one (1800 single plane) you guys recommend to use with with my dfev carb on my '79. Thanks. :D

That is a single plane manifold, but that looks like an early 1400 manifold without the coolant port adjacent to the #4 intake runner. If you install that manifold on a 2000 series head you will have a massive coolant leak. You need to find a later 1800 intake manifold.

Thanks Matt. Also noticed that the carb hold down nuts look shorter. Well, I guess I'm still on the hunt.

Those carb hold down studs would probably work with the DFEV since the throttle plate is much thinner than the ADF carbs. If you find an 1800 manifold you will either need to find shorter studs or install a spacer under the carb.

from my personal experience, take the difference in the carb studs seriously. the DFEV does have a shorter stance due to the reduced material at the throttle body... however, if you are not using a carb spacer to make up the difference, you may encounter vapor lock due to the carb overheating by being too close to the intake manifold.

vapor lock occurs at the fuel pump, fuel boiling in the carb bowl is a different problem and can result in flooding after shutting off the engine when hot

Thanks for the clarification. what i meant to say, is that w/out proper clearance between the carb and the intake manifold by the use of a spacer... you may suffer from fuel boiling, which will result in flooding and non-start issues.
