With Konis, Rear Sway bar -- Cut springs or IAP?

Post by RJ80 »

My '79's springs have been cut slightly per Mark's usual practices (think it's around 1 coil up front, 1.5 in the rear?) and I find that the KYB GR-2s installed by the PO aren't quite able to keep up. I've gone ahead and ordered a new set of Koni yellows which I intend to run on full soft. I'm also looking to reduce body roll and understeer, so I've ordered a rear Addco sway bar too (going to try pairing that to the stock front bar first, then see if I need the beefier 1-in. Addco front). Ideally, I'd like to be able to inflict a bit of oversteer in slower, tighter bends while retaining a relatively neutral car in higher-speed sweepers.

I just got an email from IAP advising me that their red springs are on sale (20% off). Since I'm going all out on the rest of the suspension, should I get the springs too? Anyone swapped from cut springs to IAPs? Any idea of what I should expect? Also considering just adding the IAPs to the rear for now when I do Konis all around, since the effort appears to be less (no need for re-allignment I think) and the stiffer rear spring rate may help to provide more oversteer. I know some people end up cutting the IAPs still... is it even worth buying them?

All thoughts are welcome.

I am in for the ride... I have the same question. Would like to lower this 4x4 down to normal car height :)

Also, if I go the route of cutting the springs (since I have a spare set from the parts car), do I have to change the stock shocks?? :?:

I am searching for cutting the springs but the threads I find, the photos of the process are gone...
